Structure and composition:

Diamond layer: composed of numerous small diamond grains bonded together through processes such as high-temperature and high-pressure sintering, forming a polycrystalline structure. The size of these diamond grains is usually in the micrometer range, with a content of up to 99%, making the diamond layer extremely hard and wear-resistant, with a Knoop hardness of (6.5-7) × 10 ⁴ megapascals or even higher.

Hard alloy substrate: located below the diamond layer, it provides good toughness and impact resistance for the composite sheet, and can support the diamond layer to withstand large cutting and impact forces during operation, preventing the diamond layer from cracking or falling off.

Performance characteristics:

High hardness and wear resistance: The hardness is second only to natural diamond, and its wear resistance is generally 60-80 times that of hard alloys. When cutting non-metallic materials with high hardness (HV>1500), the tool durability is extremely high, which can effectively maintain the sharpness of the cutting edge, reduce the frequency of tool replacement, and improve machining efficiency.

Low friction coefficient: The friction coefficient with non-ferrous metals is low, about 0.1-0.3, while the friction coefficient between hard alloys and non-ferrous metals is 0.3-0.6. The low friction coefficient significantly reduces the cutting force and cutting temperature during the cutting process, which is about 1/2-1/3 of that when using hard alloy cutting tools. This is beneficial for improving machining accuracy and surface quality, while also reducing tool wear.

High thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of diamond is 146W/m.k, which is 1.5-7 times that of cemented carbide. During the cutting process, it is possible to quickly dissipate cutting heat, reduce the temperature in the cutting area, improve tool durability, reduce tool deformation and wear caused by high temperatures, and help maintain machining accuracy.

Low thermal expansion coefficient: The linear expansion coefficient of diamond is very small, about 1/10 of that of ordinary steel. During the machining process, the tool is not easily deformed due to temperature changes, and the cold hardness phenomenon on the machined surface is small, about one-third of that of hard alloy tools, which can achieve good machining accuracy and surface quality.

High strength and toughness: Due to the support of a hard alloy substrate with high toughness, the composite bending strength of the composite sheet can reach 1500MPa, combining the high strength of diamond and the toughness of hard alloy. It can withstand large cutting and impact forces and is not easily broken or fractured.

Application areas:

Petroleum and geological drilling: It is a key component of petroleum drill bits and geological drill bits. When used for drilling in soft to medium hard formations, its cutting edge is sharp and always maintains self sharpening, which can significantly improve drilling efficiency, reduce the number of drilling lifts, extend the service life of the drill bit, and reduce drilling costs.

Mechanical processing: Manufacturing cutting tools such as turning tools, boring tools, reamers, milling cutters, forming tools, etc., used for processing various metal and non-metal materials, especially materials with high hardness and high processing accuracy requirements, such as aerospace components, automotive engine components, molds, etc., which can achieve efficient and high-precision cutting processing.

Wire drawing industry: producing wire drawing dies for drawing non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum, nickel, stainless steel, and various alloy wires. Compared to other molds, it has higher hardness and wear resistance, which can better control the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the wire, improve production efficiency, and reduce costs.
